History of the Department

In July 2003, on the basis of a group maintaining the local computer network and a publishing group the Sector of Computer Networks and Information Technologies of the Steklov Institute was organized. In April 2005, it merged with the Information and Publishing Sector and in October 2011, was transformed into the Department of Computer Networks and Information Technologies.

In April 2012, the Information and Publishing Sector and the Information and Telecommunication Sector were formed within the Department. The Information and Telecommunication Sector took over the functions and the personnel of the former Complex Systems Department of the Chief Engineer's Division.

Functions of the Department
  • administrating the local computer network of the Steklov Mathematical Institute and providing Internet access to its users;
  • providing services to the staff of the Institute in what concerns maintenance of the computer environment, software installing, consulting;
  • publishing materials of the Steklov Institute, including the serials "Sovremennye Problemy Matematiki" [translated as Bulletin of the Steklov Institute of Mathematics] and "Lektsionnye Kursy NOC" [Lectures of the Educational Center of Steklov Mathematical Institute];
  • information support for conferences and other events organized or supported by the Steklov Instutute;
  • developing and supporting the website of the Institute;
  • creating and developing the All-Russia mathematical web portal Math-Net.Ru.
